Putting It Out There…

Why not go out on a limb?  That’s where the fruit is – Will Rogers

I decided to be bold this weekend; as LH said, I “put myself out there”. Now before I get to the details of what that entailed, I would like to say for the record, I hate the phrase “put yourself out there”. What does that even mean? Am I supposed to get a sandwich board that says “Single Girl Here” and ring a bell or play a little musical tune like the ice cream man so all potential suitors can hear me coming? And where exactly is “out there”? Can someone give me directions so I know I am in the correct place? I’m not sure if I am in the correct place, or even went about it the right way, but Single Souzapalooza decided to stick her big toe in to the dating pool to see if I want to test the waters.

Over the past month, I have developed a bit of a crush on one of the apprentices on the farm. I only see him now and then, and it is usually when I am super busy so I can’t even enjoy my five minutes of attempted flirtation. When he swings by, I am usually reciting the ingredients to a breakfast cookie while wiping the sweat from my forehead and trying to keep small children (and rude adults) from grabbing muffins on their own. I can feel myself blushing when he strolls in to the market after his lunch; and I can’t help but smile when I see him coming my way. He has a lot of positive calming energy. You can tell he is passionate about what he is doing and learning on the farm and he loves to share his knowledge. It also doesn’t hurt that he is a very handsome and has the most stunning eyes.

I was talking to one of my oldest and dearest friends from high school, The Wizard, about my crush on my cultivating friend from the farm (it is always great to get a male perspective on these type of things). I mentioned that I was thinking of just slipping him my number. The Wizard asked me what I hoped to get out passing him my number. Ideally I’d love him to fall madly in love with me, but I don’t think that happens when you give someone your phone number. I think I would just like to have a chance to chat with him with out all the customers, other farmers or crazy distractions.

So Friday, when my favorite farmer came meandering in to the market, I handed him a bright blue envelope containing a note with my number inside. Maybe he’ll call, maybe he won’t, but at least I tried.
