My niece Boo Bear turn the big 1-0 last week and for her birthday got to take a trip to New York City. Where do you take a ten year old in NYC? Everywhere!
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular opened on Saturday so we decided to get tickets for Boo Bear, The Other Sister (her mom), Ka-Ka, Grandma, and Me to have a “girls day”. If you have not seen the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, you really are missing out on a wonderful holiday experience. I know November is a little early to get in to the Christmas spirit, but the show is amazing on its own. The Rockettes have been performing their kick line at Radio City Music Hall since 1932 and it really is a spectacular! It is a must see during the holiday season in New York.
After a walk around the 2014 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree which just arrived on the plaza on Friday morning and is still being prepped for the holidays, we headed to the mecca of all toy stores, FAO Schwartz. Boo Bear got to loop the store but she had her eye on the prize… The Big Piano! From the famous Tom Hanks/Robert Loggia scene in Big, many children and adults take the opportunity to twinkle their toes on the big piano.
After a little lunch, we headed in to the craziest part of NYC, Times Square. As we battled through the crowds of other tourists and a ton of construction (not sure what they are doing but it is a mess) we made a few stops. We did a walk through the M&M store which was very crowded. We stopped and did some shopping in the Disney store; Boo Bear bought a new toy called a Tsum Tsum which are new stackable plush pals from Japan. We also did walk through the Times Square Toys R Us.
In total, we walked 8 miles around a few sections of the city and only scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. I’m sure that Boo Bear will be back soon to see even more.
