I’m Not Josie Grossie!

Back in the day, I’d meet guys in bars and they’d tell me that I looked like Drew Barrymore. My response would always be, “You must be drunk.” When I think of Drew Barrymore, I think of a cute, perky, blonde California girl with daisies in her hair – pretty much my polar opposite. Don’t get me wrong, I love her. If I were famous somewhere other than my own mind, Drew and I would probably be besties. However, I never really got why I reminded people of her.

HBO has been running Drew’s 1999 hit Never Been Kissed this month. If you haven’t seen this film, make an effort. Drew plays Josie Geller a copy editor who is given her first journalism assignment, going undercover as a high school student. the twist is, her first round of high school she was an awkward nerd they called “Josie Grossie” and even though she is 25, she hasn’t lost much of the awkwardness and is expected to fit in with the popular crew. As you would expect, hilarity ensues. Check the trailer if you don’t believe me :

Hiding out from the heat, I happened to catch Never Been Kissed and I realized, I kinda feel the same way Josie feels about her love life (or lack of one). Josie and I have never felt “that thing”.What thing, you ask? To quote (thanks to IMDB) “That thing, that moment, when you kiss someone and everything around becomes hazy and the only thing in focus is you and this person and you realize that that person is the only person that you’re supposed to kiss for the rest of your life, and for one moment you get this amazing gift and you want to laugh and you want to cry because you feel so lucky that you found it and so scared that that it will go away all at the same time”

I’m not sure if such a thing exists, I like to think it does. I like to think, somewhere deep down in the pit of my stomach there is a magnet that will pull me to that right person,  something will ignite that moment and propel me in to the next chapter of my life. For now, I will just have to keep my radar on and see who triggers that magnet. I will say, as I mentioned today to DJ Cool*, I am just one of those people who is so incredibly awesome that it may not be possible to fit all my awesomeness in a relationship. Im gonna need a pretty incredible guy. I’m working on a few leads. I hear George Clooney is back on the market. I’m waiting for his call any day now. In the mean time, if anyone knows an incredible guy, send him my way. Thanks.

*Dj Cool should not to be confused with one hit wonder DJ Kool of Let Me Clear My Throat fame – my DJ Cool is way awesomer than that guy, he may give the most interesting man in the world from the Dos Equis commercials a run for his money.
