According to Alexandra Fanzen, author of Unicorns for Socialisim (a blog you should put on your “to read” list) – “The National Science Foundation determined that our brains process an average of 50,000 thoughts a day. Of those 50K, approximately 80% are negative thoughts — and 90% are thoughts we’ve already had before. We’re running one sick, sad loop of self-abasement. We rarely think anything NEW”.
When I read that, I was in complete and utter shock – that is 40,000 NEGATIVE thoughts a day! And that is just the average! Imagine how many you are having on a bad day?
So how do we stop this? How do we prevent this from spiraling out of control?
I think rather than think negative things, why don’t we try the Alice in Wonderland strategy… believe at least 6 impossible things before breakfast.
Remember that things are only impossible if you believe they are. Quite honestly, I don’t think anything is impossible if you have a plan and determination. (Check out Joel Runyon’s Blog of Impossible Things if you need a little inspiration on how to get impossible shit done!) So rather than start your day thinking negatively, start the day positive and stretch your mind to the impossible.
And if you get through your day on the positive side, don’t forget to celebrate with the dance of the futterwacken!
