I was killing some time before my train home the other night and I noticed that a shirtless Rob Lowe was on the cover of Vanity Fair, still looking super sexy at the age of 47. He definately caught my eye, but I couldn’t figure out why they put him on the cover. New movie? Another television role? Actually, Rob was chosen as May’s cover in correlation with the release of his new memoir “Stories I Tell My Friends”
I saw this article, Rob Lowe’s Memoir Revealed – Yahoo! News about Rob’s new book and have to say, I became enthralled by the plethora of anecdotes that this book contains. I think I am going to have to pick up it up and find out more about the Brat Packer with the baby blues. I will tell you, although he was not my favorite Brat Pack member, I do have a soft spot in my heart for Rob. We have a common bond….
Rob Lowe’s big break was in the Francis Ford Copp0la production of S.E. Hinton‘s book, The Outsiders. Rob played Sodapop Curtis, middle brother of Darrel (played by the late, great, Patrick Swayze) and Ponyboy (C.Thomas Howell). I too, played Soadpop Curtis…in my Middle School’s production of The Outsiders in 1992. I was very annoyed that the school chose a play with limited female roles, so I tried out for a boy’s role and got it. I was excellent! (My mom can vouch for me!)
The Jacob Burns Film Center (which is not too far from home) is screening The Outsiders on May 4th with a Q&A with Rob Lowe following the film (and you get a copy of his book included in the price of admission), but sadly the event is sold out.
Have you read any good memoirs lately? Which Brat Packer would you be interested in reading about?
